Mojofly

YEARS ACTIVE: 1999 – 2008
90’S Members: KITCHIE NADAL, RICCI GURANGO, JUNJUN REGALADO
90’S HITS: MINAMALAS, ANOTHER DAY, HALF-WISHING, RUNAWAY ANGEL

MOJOFLY is a now defunct pop-rock band from the Philippines.

Formed in '99 by bassist Ricci Gurango after his departure from Hungry Young Poets, MOJOFLY reeled in mainstream and alternative crowds alike with the debut album Birth Day (1999) and follow-up A Million Stories (2002), both released under Sony BMG Philippines. Then-lead singer Kitchie Nadal helped propel singles such as Another Day and Scooter Boy to national recognition. But in May 2003, Nadal left the group to embark on a solo career.
Mojofly then introduced Lougee Basabas as the band’s new frontwoman in only a matter of days. By year’s end the group joined the “indie” bandwagon with their self-titled EP, sold-out despite being available only in gigs. Because of Mata and the revived, revv-ed up Lougee-version of Minamalas, MOJOFLY (EP) showed the new sound of their group.
The band went on to release an LP aptly entitled MOJOFLY Now (June, 2005), still under independent label luKas Music of artist manager and music publisher Karin Araneta. This time distributed nationwide by EMI Music Philippines, Lougee took over the reins in songwriting and gained MOJOFLY “street cred” through her novel, cutting-edge compositions. Currently promoting MOJOFLY Now Special Edition (August, 2006), the 2-disc package marries the original ‘05 full-length and an A-VCD featuring live tracks from their first major concert at the Music Museum (September, 2005) and the 3D-animated music video of Tumatakbo.
MOJOFLY is the first local artist to venture into full 3D animation in Philippine music video history. The work was previewed at the 19th Singapore International Film Festival (April, 2006) and won Best Animated Video and Favorite Indie Video at the MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards 2006] (August, 2006).
Apart from once garnering the much-coveted slot for MTV Lokal Artist-of-the-Month (March, 2005), MOJOFLY also boasts a list of celebrity endorsements from Del Monte Pizza Sauce to Penshoppe and Cream Silk Conditioners. The theme song Choose and vast multi-media exposure from the Cream Silk “Girl Power, Pink Power” campaign brought MOJOFLY’s sound and Lougee’s vivid image into every household.

On 2008, Ricci Gurango, the last original member of MOJOFLY, left the band. The remaining members took in Richard Carandang and Ace Evangelista to play the bass and lead guitar. With the new members, the band decided to rename their group as Delara.

Triaxis

YEARS ACTIVE: 1995 – LATE 90’S
GROUP Member: PERF DE CASTRO, WENDELL GARCIA, CLAIRE SOBEJANA, KING BALDOZ* (*King replaced Claire at bass)

90’S HITS: PMST, SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, I FOUND YOU, ASA KA PA, MUKHA

Even in this day and the age of electronic dance beats, Perf de Castro, still defiantly embodies the axeman image. His name goes haywire whenever he's on stage, his fingers run up and down the fretboard with high-speed abandon, yet he never forgets to inject sensitivity and soulfullness into every blistering note he picks. All the while his jam unit, Triaxis, proves to be a solid rhythm section.

Aggression and soulfullness are only two of the key words that can be used to describe this band's second album, WHO WE ARE. Triaxis resurrects he elementary power trio format to churn out soulful, hookdriven songs that put more emphasis on melody than technique.

Along with drummer Wendell Garcia and bassist King Baldoz, Perf has been leading Triaxis through extensive bar tours and a number of major gigs around Metro Manila for the past three years. Of course, most people might know Perf as the former lead guitarist of River Maya, a band he left for what was described as "musical differences."

Triaxis was initially the idea of De Castro and Wolfgang bassist Mon Legaspi. "Our idea with Mon was to put up a band where all the members sing," recalls Perf. Wendell - who used to be the drummer for a band called a River Brocolli - hung around a lot in Perf's music studio in Sucat, Paranaque (aptly named, of course, Perfect Music Studio) and was called to do a drums.

The initial line-up was able to play in several school concerts and sets in 70's Bistro in Proj.2, Quezon City. Everything went well until Legaspi had to leave the band as Wolfgang got bigger and bigger. Enter Claire Sobejana (who was introduced to Triaxis by Legaspi), a student at the UST Conservatory of Music.

Not too long after its demo, Triaxis' 12-song debut album FURTHER DOWN THE BEND was finally released under Sony Music. The record reflected the group's various influences, as can be heard on cuts like "PMST' (nominated for Best Video at the 1997 NU Rack Awards), "Perf's Boogie" (which won Best Instrumental Performance and Best Instrumental Composition at he 1997 Katha Music Awards), "Lights Fell Down," and the blues extravaganza "running Water Blues." However, Sobejana left the band shortly after the albums release - a big loss, according to Perf. King Baldoz took up where Sobejana left off, proving to be able replacement by injecting his own bass grooves to the songs.
But the pluses don't just end there. As a unit, Triaxis is endowed with an abundance of other qualities - which include inexhaustible energy (they produce, arrange, rehearse, clown around, etc.), and unwavering attitude ("this is who we are, take it or leave it," etc...) - that warrant them the title; Revolutionary Rock n' Roll Messiahs.

Advent Call

YEARS ACTIVE: LATE 80’S – PRESENT
Members: KARL ROY, HENRY VITALLI
90’S HITS: PUTING ILAW, MEMORIES OF OUR DREAMS

Karl Roy (May 25, 1968 – March 13, 2012) was a Filipino rock/funk singer. He was the lead singer of the groups Advent Call, Kapatid and P.O.T.
Karl Roy was the elder brother of Kevin Roy, the lead singer of the band Razorback, and the first cousin of Jose "Judd" Roy III, one of the defense lawyers of the impeachment trial of Philippine Chief Justice Renato Corona. Roy's other siblings are Ralph, Keith, Krys and Kathryn. He was also a cousin of Jack Roy Duavit. His late grandfather, Jose Roy, Sr. was a Senator in the Philippines.

Roy began his career in the early 1990s as lead singer of the alternative group Advent Call, but did not become well known to the general public until after founding another rock band, P.O.T. in 1996, when the group had hits with "Yugyugan Na" ("Time to shake"), "Panaginip", "Overload" and "Have a Piece of This". Roy was one of the most influential Filipino artist of his time."Yugyugan Na" was a cover of the song by the band The Philippine Advisors. P.O.T. officially disbanded in 2005. Two years prior, he formed a new group named Kapatid together with Nathan Azarcon (bass), J-Hoon Balbuena (drums), Ira Cruz (guitar) and Chico Molina (guitar). With Kapatid, he released the albums Kapatid (2003) and Luha (2006). Roy's rock image made him a crowd favorite. He was also popularly known for his eccentric behavior while performing on stage. In September 2007, shortly after returning home from the recording of a TV commercial for San Miguel's Red Horse Beer, Roy suffered a stroke, paralyzing the right side of his body. He recovered, however, and rejoined Kapatid.

Roy had a daughter named Ariana Nicole (born 1994), his only child with his ex-girlfriend Maria Nieves San Diego (Yvette). Roy married Dena Devries in 2000.[3] Roy was also famous for being an avid tattoo and piercing wearer. He had a wide variety of tattoos and piercing collection all over his body.

Karl Roy died on March 13, 2012, reportedly due to cardiac arrest, although he was diagnosed with pulmonary edema. Prior to his death, he was rushed to the Cardinal Rufino Santos Hospital in San Juan City where he was put in ICU. He is survived by his wife Dena and daughter Ariana. Hours after his death, Roy became the top trending topic on Twitter Philippines. His remains were cremated and his wake was held at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Shrine in New Manila, Quezon City. On March 18, his urn was transferred to his family mausoleum at the Loyola Memorial Park as the permanent resting place.

Twice A Woman In Me

Twice A Woman In Me

By HRLu
Your serenity in the midst,
Made you more beautiful,
I can't cope up with anything,
For I have a mind of a fool.
\Thoughts of you kept pounding me,
Even if I don't see you much more,
I've been holding this on,
'Cause you're the one that I long for.
\Love I didn't know I possesed,
But it poured out of me,
I was determined to wait for that,
But it's so close to you constantly.
\I can no longer pretend as a friend,
'Cause I love you more than that,
And if you wouldn't let me share it,
To wait is all I've got.
\Half of forever for this,
For it is so lovely,
'Cause for the very first day I met you,
You're twice a woman in me.

All I Want

All I Want

By HRLu
All I want out of life
Is whatever time you have,
I'll never demand of yours,
You cannot freely give.
That's all I want
Among other beautiful things,
Once this all settles in
You'll know what I mean.
Of course I mean you,
A plain simple woman,
While here I am,
Being your unusual man.
A man who holds
A feeling for you,
With the thoughts of
Deeply loving you.
With here I'm sure that was all enough,
I just don't want to get my only hopes up.
Because without you, I guess I'll be nothing.
But with you, I'm sure I am everything.

Longing

Longing

By HRLu
Time now has come for me,
To long for your heart.
Longing for the place
In which I left it,
With you being with me
Has tired me so many times,
For I haven't seen you,
Nor heard the sweetness of your voice,
Nor felt the warmth of you
Being with me.
\Struck by loneliness,
Triggers the soulful hand,
To write another poem,
That will cried out in a loud voice,
And reach the loveliness of your heart.

In Verses Of A Soft Feeling

In Verses Of A Soft Feeling

By HRLu
So many nights I've lay awake,
Just to keep a thought of you,
I've been turn toward like a compass,
Hoping that I could find you.
\But to follow my pen,
Are to write poems, left undone,
Someday you'll be able to know,
Be able to read it when it's done.
\It's a word of expression,
In a lyrical weeping,
Been joined together,
In verses of a soft feeling.
\In creation of a melody,
Its rhythmn will harmonized,
So that the love I had felt,
Will whisper with you 'til the sunrise.

Pointless

Pointless

By HRLu
For once in my life, I felt love,
I mean once, that is strong,
In my mind it was vaguely defined,
But in my heart it was never refined.
\It was unquestioned,
My mind was dulled and poisoned,
Love, it always fills me with the courage,
But I never had the advantage.
\Sometimes, I felt the need for it to be told,
But the feeling had just grown old,
And it was only here and now,
That the love I barely learned became pointless,
It was only here and now,
I've learned she's in love with somebody else,
But my love...never will be endless,
And she'll be a part of it forever.

All I Mean

All I Mean

By HRLu
Beauty lies within you,
Simplicity is with you,
Tranquility is in your expression,
Femininity leads you to perfection.
\Your sweetness has a warm caress,
Your touch is like a princess,
You stood like a queen,
You're lovely, that's all I mean.

Like Two Comets

Like Two Comets

By HRLu
The very first day that we met,
We're like an orbiting comet,
Through this mystical universe,
We leave some of our memorable traces.

We traveled through the heavens,
With a different path's taken,
We inevitably move so little,
Until we've come into full circle.
\This time, we are so close,
In our journey, our path's had crossed,
Where I've come to learned,
I'm in love with you my friend.
\If ever we may pass or go on sep'rate ways,
If ever we may come here to stay,
There's something I just want to say,
Let my love be in your way.

Somekind Of A Special Feeling

Somekind Of A Special Feeling

By HRLu
Every night before sleeping,
I felt somekind of a special feeling,
I gathered all my thoughts to write,
A poem that is deep but very light.
\It is the well-spring of my language,
Not rich, that blossomed through the ages,
But I've come to learn it's not poor either,
'Cause I even speak a bit good like others.
\I guess there'll be no other way,
Than expressing it in a poetic way,
Words and thoughts are gathered together,
Expressing the love I feel for you ever.
\It's a kind of thinking about you deeply,
Asking so much of you entirely,
That I do want it always to consider,
Just for you I will be here forever.
\Someone who will love you here,
And someone who'll care for you so dear,
It maybe so wonderful for me to know,
That here I am longing for my love to grow.

Love Is Not That Simple

Love Is Not That Simple

By HRLu
The rest of my line,
Will be in varying degrees,
It came toward my mind,
Together with the evening breeze.
\There wasn't so much to think,
But the night fired me to dreaming,
That most of my dark hours,
Was about into your longing.
\Love wasn't that simple,
And it hurts me so,
I should have told you this,
From a long, long time ago.
\I was about to tell it now,
But how comforting it can be,
I'm really in love with you,
Would you let me be?

In Beauty

In Beauty

By HRLu
In beauty you are plain,
But has a touch of loveliness,
And it all dimmed when,
Seeing has little chances.
\Many miles had crossed us apart,
And leave no sight of love,
Will the journey would be of short,
Oh yes it is, if it's for love.
\Few spoken words will be of love,
And the smile to show its charm,
The voice of love with that of dove,
Will keep the love's whisper, still so warm.
